Anne Shirley Theatre Company (ASTC) is a levy group that has been running for twenty years and is one of the longest running clubs at Trent. Over the years, ASTC has put on countless shows and events for the Trent and Peterborough community. This year, ASTC has put on Little Women the play, a Swing Night with a live band, and a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show where together we made a mess. This winter semester, expect to see The Drowsy Chaperone, an exciting over the top musical set in the 1920s, that will be performed at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre. On top of this, don’t miss out on Concord Floral, a Canadian play written by Jordan Tannahill that is set in Vaughn, which will be performed on campus in Nozhem Theatre. We also have an exciting revival of an old tradition, Trent’s Got Talent, a friendly competitive talent show, which will be happening in the middle of February.

After a couple of difficult years of theatre, ASTC has come back in full force. If you have skills in acting, technology, singing, or organizing and planning, there is a place for you within ASTC. To get involved come see one of our three spring shows, audition for Trent’s Got Talent, or attend our Annual General Meeting in which we elect the new members to the board.

ASTC’s president, Elias Trivett, states that, “Our executive team is working towards building a financially secure future for the company and implementing strategies to increase inclusivity and diversity. Many groups receive financial support from our company including the Trent Dance Team. ASTC’s total membership consists of both current and past Trent students, as well as past production members. ASTC’s main stakeholder is Trent students, as their levy fees support our organization. However, ASTC still wishes to include the greater community in all performances. ASTC allows up to one third of every production to consist of members outside of Trent University. All artists have a place within our organization”. ASTC strives every year to be a better community and offer more opportunities for as many people as possible. If you have a desire to be a part of an accepting club, our doors are open to volunteers, board members, cast, crew, and audience members!
