On the morning of November 17th, the Trent Central Student Association held a Town Hall with their membership to discuss ATU Local 1320’s negotiations with the City of Peterborough, and the impact of a potential strike on students. However, TCSA executives shared a preponderance of misleading messaging to the membership both during and following the event.
ood insecurity is not an unfamiliar topic, especially for students. This has many people asking “What’s Soup With Food Insecurity?”. The Seasoned Spoon and TCSA hosted a collaborative event by this name on Monday November 13th. The event included a cooking class and workshop surrounding the matter.
Issue 5 features reporting on events centred around Black History Month both in Peterborough and Durham Region as well as a host of local community arts, culture, and politics stories - including the unveiling of the new crest for Gidigaa Migizi College during this year's Elders and Tradsitional People's Gathering. FInally, as things ramp up for the TCSA's spring elections, we're hopeful that students will make informed decisions on the questions the Association is asking them to vote on, again.
New Year, same paper. Arthur is back for 2024 and we have partnered with ReFrame Film Festival as an Official Media Partner. This edition features a special centre spread filled with reviews of films appearing at this year's festival. Issue 4 also tackles issues of interest to the public including the purchase of a new property for the Police, the perennial question of what constitutes a Canadian film, and also what is going on at Cleantech Commons?
Issue 2 takes on the dichotomy that is Head of The Trent with two long-form articles discussing the impacts on the community from the perspective of Indigenous students and staff and a rollicking piece about the forgotten raison d'être for the whole event which fell on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Evan Robins debuts the first two parts of a series on Peter Robinson College 20 years after its sale. All this alongside community, City Hall, and campus news from the TCSA.
