Today's music is created with the intent to sell, not influence. The songs today’s music industry classifies as latest hits are songs that lack quality, density, and abandon what it means to produce authentic and genuine music. Due to the unlimited access we now have to music as well as production through media, releasing music today requires a significantly lower degree of talent than ever before. This has a drastic effect on the music industry and what is considered popular today, and significantly influences how artists now approach releasing new music.
I’ve been challenging myself to audience more. No, that’s not a typo. Lately I’ve been thinking about audience as a verb, the simultaneous role of watching, the active sense of the passive tense being entertained.
It’s like saying a lion doesn't mean to scare away a gazelle by approaching it. Even if the lion has no intention of hurting the gazelle, how is the gazelle supposed to know that? How is the gazelle supposed to recognize which lion will eat it and which lion just wants to get a drink from the oasis? Maybe it’s the fact that a body of water with a lion near it can never be an oasis for a gazelle.
Rumours of Alfred's death have been greatly exaggerated, as the current insert bears witness to. This horrible little paper, bred in the deepest pits of contempt for ingrained authority, bootlickers, and patsies of all description is the satirical (and deeply stupid) younger brother of Arthur. Be warned: This paper has no redeeming qualities.
With Issue Seven, Arthur's 57th Volume goes out with a proverbial bang. Having survived a malicious libel and defunding campaign wrought by Trent's best and brightest, Arthur is assured another year (at least) of funding. Beyond the top-notch reporting you've come to love and expect, the paper and its contributors come back swinging with "Alfred" - an insert which is not recommended for anyone under the age of 18 or who get offended by things they read.
Arthur is back in action for March and after a brual month full of all kinds of horrible slights and baseless attacks from the far reaches of campus we get to keep our funding for at least another year! This issue features everything from the profane to the profound and everything in between. In short, everything people have come to love (or despise) about Arthur is here within these pages. We talk about the most moving moments of the 47th annual Elders and Traditional People's Gathering to the academic ramifications for discovering you are indeed a cat. You'll also find the latest on what City Council has been up to and a review of some pertinent films.
Episode 5 is here! MP Michelle Ferreri's Twitter account got HACKED! ONDP Leader Marit Stiles paid Peterborough a visit. There was another LEAK in the CREEK. The Theatre on King didn't get funded. And we finally found time for DRAMMMA!
