Letter to the Editors: Trent Needs to Do Better This Homecoming Weekend

I am writing to express my concern regarding the incidents of misconduct that took place during the 2022 Homecoming Head of the Trent event at Trent University (and all over downtown). The acts of vandalism, including the tipping over of a security vehicle and drunkenly defacing public spaces, are deeply troubling and completely unacceptable. It is disheartening to witness such behaviour, which goes against the values and principles that Trent University aims to instil in its students. Acts of this nature not only reflect poorly on the university but also negatively impact the broader community of Peterborough. It's a lot more than just kids will be kids, last year it seemed giant groups of students got drunk as skunks and ran amok everywhere they went.

I believe it is imperative that we take proactive steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future. I am interested (as well as many others I'm sure!) in knowing the measures that the deans or dons at Trent University plan to implement to prevent a recurrence of these regrettable events.

I would appreciate it if you could share any specific strategies or initiatives that are being considered or put into place to address this issue.

It is crucial that the university communicates its commitment to upholding the highest standards of behaviour and discipline among its student body. Acts of vandalism and public nuisance can never be considered acceptable behaviour by any institution, especially one as esteemed as Trent University.  Last year's fiasco was an embarrassment and a black eye to Trent to allow such shameful bad behaviour.

Show school spirit and pride in a sober alternative way. Please have more respect for our city and community. I have confidence that the university, in collaboration with local authorities, will take the necessary steps to foster a culture of respect, responsibility, and accountability among its students. This matter must be addressed the sooner the better.

Truly look forward to hearing about the proactive measures being taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Let's hope they come up with community initiatives or efforts that we can support to contribute to a more harmonious relationship between the university, its students and the city of Peterborough.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

"Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system."
