The February 11th Trent Central Student Association Board of Directors meeting saw multiple heated discussions, and the announcement of new measures, from $12,000 of funding for Sadleir House put up for referendum, to by-law amendments simplifying the TCSA’s internal impeachment processes.
In the TCSA's first board meeting of the second semester and the new calendar year, the Association outlined plans for the remainder of the operating year and upcoming Spring Elections. Significantly, Arthur learned that the longstanding plans for a Student Staff union have reportedly fallen through, leaving the future of students employed by Trent's housing department uncertain.
A few weeks back, the TCSA was handing out free breakfast sandwiches and bagels from McDonalds, an action students were repulsed by given many people are actively boycotting is McDonalds due to its support of the Israeli occupation of Gaza.
Arthur Newspaper returns for a very spooky edition. Spooky as in, you know, Hallowe'en and also Head of The Trent. This issue, your editors bring the annual Trent University homecoming right to your page. Including "Overheard at Head of the Trent", a snapshot of missed connections during the rowing regatta. Plus, you scream, I scream, we all scream as the student union met for the first time this academic year. Inside, co-editor Evan Robins reflect on celebrity death and worship in a time of global turmoil, Abbigale Kernya opens up about her failed vegetarianism, and Arthur journalists investigate, interview, poke and prod everything from films to professors.
Issue 5 features reporting on events centred around Black History Month both in Peterborough and Durham Region as well as a host of local community arts, culture, and politics stories - including the unveiling of the new crest for Gidigaa Migizi College during this year's Elders and Tradsitional People's Gathering. FInally, as things ramp up for the TCSA's spring elections, we're hopeful that students will make informed decisions on the questions the Association is asking them to vote on, again.
Leo Groarke paddles away from accountability and onto the front page of Arthur's November issue. We have everything here from bathroom politics to the experiences of teaching candidates and how Gzowski College plans to spend its COVID surplus. This issue also featured the resurrection of Lillith - a feminist self-representation insert featuring art, poetry, and prose created in recognition of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
